About the Global Campaign for Education
The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) is the world's largest civil society movement working to end the global education crisis. Education is a basic human right, and our mission is to make sure that governments act now to deliver the right of everyone to a free, quality, public education.
Our membership is comprised of a huge variety of national, regional and international civil society organisations, teachers’ unions and child rights campaigners. Together, we hold governments to account for their promises to provide education for all.
Nationally, there are over 90 education coalitions which have their own memberships comprised of teachers’ unions, NGOs and other civil society organisations committed to education. These national coalitions work to effect positive change in their education systems, monitor commitments made by their governments and represent their countries on the international political stage.
About the Fund the Future campaign
Fund the Future is a civil society campaign, led by the Global Campaign for Education, which is calling for action to secure significant shifts in education financing – through increases in aid and domestic finance – to achieve the SDG4/Education 2030 goals. We call for governments to work harder to meet the huge financing gaps in education, to tackle the stagnation of aid to education, and a lack of domestic financing for education in low- and middle-income countries.
The campaign explicitly seeks to take a multipronged approach, and be adaptable to different national or regional contexts, while uniting multiple ‘mini’ campaigning activities or actions under one umbrella. It also seeks to bring together the GCE movement with other civil society actors, including new partners working on issues related to education financing - such as global tax justice. As well as civil society actors, GCE will be working with partners such as the Global Partnership for Education to strengthen joint advocacy efforts and ensure demands are aligned.
The Fund the Future campaign originated in 2011 and ran again in 2014 to push for greater and better financing for the Global Partnership for Education. Civil society worked under this banner in donor and in developing country partner countries to encourage strong pledges during the 2011 and 2014 GPE Replenishment Conferences. Since then the Fund the Future campaign has become synonymous with our work on education financing, forming the focus of GCE's Global Action Week for Education in 2016, and continuing to galvanise our collective action to fully fund education for all.
